Interpreting OPI Results
How are examinees rated?
- Candidates are given a holistic rating based on all of the following factors:
Vocabulary
Grammar
Pronunciation
Fluency
Linguistic tasks
Socio-linguistic/cultural awareness
- Candidates are rated on an 11-point scale, ranging from "0," no functional proficiency, to "5," educated native-speaker proficiency.
What are plus levels?
- Plus levels (0+, 1+, 2+, 3+, 4+)
Demonstration of inconsistent proficiency at the next higher base level
For example, a 1+ speaker can do the same things with the language a 2 speaker can, but he/she will not do them as well.
